APC governor and, Atiku blames Jonathan for Kaduna blasts

Governors of All Progressives Congress (APC) states yesterday reacted to Wednesday’s twin bomb blasts in Kaduna which claimed 90 lives with scores injured. A former Head of State and leader of the APC, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari and a popular Islamic cleric, Dahiru Bauchi, escaped death by the whiskers.Buhari’s convoy was attacked in the blast that went off in the state capital. He was en route Daura, Katsina State for the end of Ramadan festival. In their reaction yesterday, the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) blamed President Goodluck Jonathan for not doing enough to stop the spate of the bombings by Boko Haram. Buhari and another APC chieftain who is former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, had earlier lambasted the Presidency over the level of insecurity in the country, urging the Federal Government to halt the attacks.
Reacting to the Kaduna bombings which they claimed were targeted at Buhari, the governors said the incident was a dangerous development, which should not be taken lightly by any responsible Nigerian.
Atiku who also reacted, said the attack has added a dangerous dimension to a bad security situation in the country. The former Vice President who claimed it was an assassination attempt on Buhari has only deepened the anxiety of ordinary citizens that nobody is safe if a former Head of State could be so targeted and almost killed, but for providence.
He noted that while it is the duty of all leaders regardless of political affiliations to support the anti terrorism efforts in the country, it would not be wise to keep quiet when events are taking disturbing dimension. Atiku restated that the security, welfare and the happiness of the citizens are basic functions of every government. Therefore, he said no leader should be happy with a situation where the citizens become captives of fear, feel abandoned to their fates.
But the governors claimed that “the assassination attack on General Buhari, coming just two days after he urged the President to stop waging war on Nigerians and to devote more time and energy to the war on terrorism, confirmed our concerns that the lives of the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), are no longer safe.”
The governors vowed to hold the Federal Government responsible for any further attempts on the lives of General Buhari and other APC leaders. The governors admonished the Federal Government to investigate the assassination attempt and make its findings public.
The governors’ statement reads in part: “The PGF also lends its voice to General Buhari’s statement to President Goodluck Jonathan, that it is unwise and against the spirit of social democracy that so many innocent lives should be lost simply in the quest to demobilise the APC and retain power at all costs.
“Clearly, the Federal Government has failed in its fundamental responsibility of  providing security for Nigerians, yet, it is quick to point accusing fingers at the opposition in order to shift the blame for the low intensity war going on in parts of the country.
“Particularly worrisome is the statement credited to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Kenneth Minimah that soldiers were deserting the Army for fear of Boko Haram. Our question is, what happened to the vast sums of money devoted to security and defence in the last four years of the Jonathan presidency and is the desertion of soldiers linked to the theft of monies meant for military equipment?
“We call on the Federal Government to take urgent and radical steps to investigate the assassination attempt and make its findings public”, the PGF said.
